Built

The Los Angeles Unified School District identified various elementary school campuses to remove relocatable structures, add classrooms and provide additional parking spaces for new staff. The design directives included providing underground parking for 32 cars to accomodate most of the staff parking. The parking ramp is accessible directly from a public right of way to avoid on campus vehicle traffic. The program includes 14 classrooms, conference rooms, offices, toilets. The new 2 story building is part of a larger elementary school complex framing playgrounds and eliminating the need for relocatable classrooms. Classrooms conform to state and district standards for ‘smart classroom’ technology with high ceilings, ample natural light and central energy management. The design incorporates ‘sustainability’ measures through motion and daylights sensors for the lighting. Low VOC paints, linseed oil linoleum flooring, clerestory lighting and sensor controlled toilet fixtures.
